Come for the flowers!

Tyler is known for its flowers. Of all kinds.

It is the Rose Capitol of the US and boasts the largest rose garden in the country. The rose garden encompasses 14 acres and holds 38,000 rose bushes of 500 varieties.

If you come in October, you can participate in the Texas Rose Festival,  enjoy rose-themed festivities, and sample rose-flavored food and drinks throughout the town.

And don’t forget to visit the Rose Museum!

If you visit Tyler in the spring, plan to come when the Azalea Trail is blooming.

The Azalea Trail usually blooms from late March to mid-April. Watch Facebook and other local community sites for exact seasonal opening times.

The trail is over eight miles long and consists of a stunning mix of blooming gardens and trees of all shapes and sizes. From the featured azaleas of multiple colors to dogwood, Japanese maples, tulips, daffodils, wild Texas bluebonnets, and many more.

The azaleas were first planted in 1929 and have thrived in this lovely environment. This wonderful historical and floral display has become a nationwide destination.

They consist of two separate trail routes: The Lindsey Trail and the Dobbs Trail.

It’s also part of the Azalea National Historic District—not only beautiful flowers but also lovely historic homes built in the early 20th century.

As if these floral wonders aren’t enough, the Texas Bluebonnets typically flower around the same time, so even your drive into town will be surrounded by flowers. The bluebonnet is also known as Texas Lupine. Their spectacular deep blue display sometimes covers the countryside of East Texas.

If you’re a nature photographer, the Azalea Trail and surrounding wildflowers are a photographer’s dream. Even if you aren’t a professional photographer, it’s hard to take a bad picture when surrounded by so much natural beauty.

Especially if you’re looking for outdoor adventures for the whole family, the Azalea Trail is a perfect option.
